Tower Records is closing, the entire chain.
This has really saddened me, and no one I talk to understands it…. I
have been shopping @ tower for over 12 years… The local mall didn’t
have a virgin megastore(I don’t think I even knew what virgin was) but
we had a tower and I remeber my mall rat days being spent in tower for a
good part of the day picking out the sound track of the day then
putting it in our portable CD player with speakers and hanging around
the mall for the rest of the day wasting our precious preteen days….
I first discovered bikini kill in tower, it was the mid nineties and I
was already living the riot girl lifestyle even though I had never heard
it before and when I first heard rebel girl blaring on the sound system
of tower I was in love….
Rage(who’s real name I never knew) work on the weekends and he used to
gimme the free promotional cds that tower was going to toss and an
employee discount…. He also taought me how to do my first mohawk, and
his girlfriend April was the first person I ever saw with a chelsa
(which is one of my favorite haircuts for myself)
I also first heard rupaul in tower which was one of my first steps
towards coming out….
I was my grungiest and my punkest in my early tower days…
And by december this great chapter of my life is shutting down permitly,
they’ve been bought out by a liquidation company…
I feel like the cast of Empire Records(which was inspired by tower
records) I feel like pulling out my grunge clothes and fighting this…
But there is nothing I can do so instead I’m taking advantage of 30 – 60
percent off the dvd’s and cd’s I want…
Goode bye Tower and Goodbye Teen Years
