Things I Like Thursday

Okay so I’ve been away sorry…

Things I like this week. ‘

New musicians that I love with heartbreaking but catchy songs, I have two even Gotye and Kimbra who yo can hear in the same awesome song:

I love the chorus :

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
No you didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know

Birthday Parties with themes, I’m having mine this weekend with a comic book character theme, and the weekend after that my friend is having a failed superheroes birthday party…

Making Costumes… I’ve in the past month mad a costume for Ellen for Chimera and one for my birthday party and one for the LARP “But Nobody Loses an Eye” in which we are all 5 year olds at a birthday party! I have a few gowns….

Dresden File Books…. I’m just starting them and surprisingly LOVE them… I mean the fantasy part I knew I’d love but the gumshoe part I wasn’t sure of.  Bonus is I get James Marsters to read them to me via Audible.com

Have I mentioned my unnatural *LOVE* of audible.com? I’m starting to wonder how I read things… like with my eyes and stuff….

Things I Like Thursday

To start off things I don’t like: Accidently deleting two posts from existence by forgetting to check how recent my database backup was when upgrading my database.

—-real post begins here—-
My new blog theme thanks Sam of Rooster Tails for the cool graphics. I’m probably not done yet… I’ll still be doing a few tweaks here and there.  Also there are a few bits of content that I really need to add to the pages…

Web comics… I mean they are comics and I read them on the internet… for free!!

My top 5 are(in no particular order):

  • PVP Player vs. Player is as very nerdy comic mostly aimed at gamers.
  • XKCD how do you explain this comic to those who don’t know about it… All I can say is when me and my husband talk about it we never seem to get the letter right we have called it XFCE XKFC and XKFD among many other things….
  • Rooster Tails an awesome New Zealand trans/queer comic written by a talented trans comic artist
  • The Knit Princess really funny knitting comic, probably only funny to knitters and maybe those close to knitters.
  • Oglaf NSFW enchanted sperm, naughty stories, and irreverent humour
  • and as a bonus Khaos Komix more Trans/Queer comics, this one tells several stories from lots of viewpoints, not so much funny like Rooster Tails, and more heartbreaking in bits.

Audible.com how I love thee… I love to read I read probably about 20 hours a week maybe more, which has always meant that my reading competes with my other hobbies(which I seem to have a lot of) meaning that I can either read or knit, read or embroider, read or cook dinner(okay not so much a hobby). You get the picture… About a two and a half years ago, after hearing on every single one of Brenda Dayne‘s podcasts about audible, I decided to give it a go and get a free audio book… Well I never had an audio device it worked with so I cancelled it.  Fast Forward 6 months I got an android phone , and guess what it had an audible app which meant I could download the books directly to my phone. Now I use audible constantly… I still read actual books but my reading time has increased massively cause I can read and do other things like knitting and cooking.

Related: The Septimus Heap books… I’m halfway through book 5 and I absolutely love this series… They are like Harry Potter but yet not at all like Harry Potter. They are well written engaging and amazing to read.

Honourable Mentions:

Getting a postcard from Jenni… I love mail that’s not bills.

Larping (of course)

The Guild (they are back yay!!!)

I read therefore I am

Anyone who really knows me knows I read. I read a lot. I can often be found with a book in my bag or purse, I have one on my desk at all times, an audio book on my MP3 player, and one next to the bed. I am capable of reading multiple books at once and often am.  I read mostly fiction because I have enough nonfiction in my real life. There are a few nonfiction subjects that I will just devour anything abouth them that is well written. I’m not a literature snob, I love the trash as much as I love the classics. I will make no claims you be the fastest reader that is out there but on average I can read two books a week, sometimes more. Some books are easy reads(like harry potter) and some I have toiled over reading for years(like the hobbit). I recently was thinking about the books I read and how much I read and was wondering how many books do I read a year? I have a bad memory I can remeber most stories and plots of books not always the details, but when that book was added to my vast databanks of knowledge is fuzzy. So I have decided to document what I am currently reading and have read. I will be posting each book I have read as micro posts within a books I’ve read category, these posts like the made monday posts will not show up in the blog section of my main page although they will show up in the main feed. Clear as mud? I hope you enjoy reading these posts/reviews as much as I do!

procasti….oh i’ll do that later

What did I do yesterday?

- I organized my desk.

- I made a pot of tea.

- I watched the second series of The Catherine Tate Show.

- I decorated my desk with blue tinsel.

- I asked Ryan what he was doing 327 times.

- I posted 42 posts on ravelry.

- I clicked refresh on ravelry 2,891 times.

- I knit one row on the back of my asymmetrical jacket.

- Read some of “No Plot? No Problem?”

- I fondled some yarn in my stash and planned another cardigan.

- Organized my desk again.

- Researched the nutritional fact of Orange Juice.

- Took blue tinsel down deciding that it looks naff.

- Pondered the oddity of the word “juice”

- Watched more Catherine Tate.

- Put blue tinsel back up after realizing I *AM* naff so thus the tinsel fits in!

- I finally sat down and tried to write for NaNoWriMo.

What didn’t I do?

- Finalise my plot details or character details yet for NaNoWriMo

- Clean of the bench from the part on Friday night!

I should get up and clean the bench then finalise my plot and character details…

Bah I will do that later!

Feeling…

Lately I have been feeling rather like it’s time for a change, so I updated the look of my website. I think It’s rather swell, but then again I designed it. So I have had a website for a year and this blog now for a year. It’s interesting originally I thought I was going to make both the website and my blog strictly for my fashion design but in the past year I have noticed that I really need a website the encompasses all of me, the activist, the fashion designer, the performer, the web designer, the writer, all of me. So keep a look out in the next couple of weeks for a new format and some new content.

Speaking of web work I have too many sites to do and I just got one more!! But I hope to have one of them done soon, and thus be able to move on to the other ones.

In other news sometime in the last few weeks my brain fell out of my head and turn to a liquid that was asorbed into the carpet. I know you aksing your self “what the bloody hell is she on about?” Well in a great moment of stupidity I signed up for NaNoWriMo and if that wasn’t enough I decided that I would do al the writing in blog form. So if you want to read the nonsense that I will be writing throughout November please feek free to follow my blog over at http://brooklynnemichelle.com/grrrlshapedthing.
